HERO, org 2006 Board member Bio’s
Korey Klug, President, is a Licensed Mechanic, manager & head mechanic of a full service shop. His other job experiences include market research surveying, exit polling, and educational assistant. Korey received college level CEU’s for a ADD, ADHD & Dyslexia and Health seminar. He has cared for his disabled father since 1987. He is ADHD but finds the extra energy to be helpful in his activities. He hopes to use his experiences and abilities to enhance the lives of the recipients of HERO.
Betty Klug, Executive Director & Treasure, received a B.S. Degree “with Honors” in Education in Human Ecology & Psychology, Received a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership (Administration) from Eastern Michigan University. She set up programs for gifted education in the Ovid-Elise Area Schools and Walled Lake Schools in Michigan. Betty taught Home Ec., Gifted Education, Arts and Crafts for Adult Education and once a Home Economist in St. Johns Mi. She was President of Jaycee Auxiliary & Regional Director of Personal Dynamics. For ten years she owned and operated a wholesale\retail florist business. In 1987, Betty developed Pinecrest School for ADD, ADHD, and Dyslexic individuals. She taught at and was Principal of Pinecrest School. Also Betty managed, hired staff and worked as a Market Research Surveyor for various companies (McDonald’s, Burger King, Phillip Morris, Etc.) She did traffic flow surveys, which involved interviewing customers, to determine the feasibility of setting up new stores in nearby areas. She participated in many other market research programs including door to door surveys, mystery shopping and participating in the 2000 U.S. Census. Betty holds a Michigan Real Estate License and has taught beginning Real Estate courses. Over the years, she has been an active member and board member of many business associations. Betty is a member of Phi Delta Kappa educational “Honor Fraternity”.
Susan Farr, Secretary, has a Teaching Degree in Physical Education & Health from Michigan State University. She has been appointed to and serves on the Shiawassee County Parks Board since 2001, and did volunteer work in 2002 - 2003 to update Laingsburg, Mi. Parks and Recreation Master Plan that she developed in 1994. Susan developed and co-owned a small business, which hired under privileged and at risk youth and adults. She volunteered as a camp counselor for 40 area high school students and chaperoned on a ten-day canoe trip to boundary waters in Canada’s Quetico Provincial Park. Susan is committed to long-term projects and helping people grow. Currently she is teaching Science and working toward a Business Associates Degree.
Steven Coe, Vice President, has a wide range of knowledge in various fields from auto mechanics to auto bodywork, professional cleaning, carpentry, house wiring, plumbing, and drywall, computer repair and programming, school maintenance of school bus fleet. He worked as a Market Research Surveyor for various companies (McDonald’s, Burger King Etc.) and did traffic flow surveys, which involved interviewing customers, to determine the feasibility of setting up new stores in nearby areas. Steve states, “Provided it is within my capabilities, anyone who requests my assistance will receive it”. He is currently an apprentice working toward his commercial electrician license.
Jan Meacham, Board Member, experiences include being a member of an Employee Assistance Program at a Michigan Auto Plant. A business facilitator, fundraiser and worked with young people in an internship program at Pinecrest School. She is currently involved in setting up a foundation for a drop in center for disabled individuals.
Jill Wixson, board member, retired from Ray’s Food meat department where she was a member of the AFLCIO union. Jill owned and operated a Bridal Shop for four years. She has held a Michigan real estate license for twenty-five years. For the past eight years Jill has owned and operated two Adult Foster Homes.
Sylvia Forbes, board member, has been self employed for 32 years. She owned and operated S & D Cleaning and S and D Janitorial Service. She owned and operated a home day care called “Bundles of Joy Child Care” for 3 years. Recently, Sylvia started “Daydiamonds Bath and Beauty Essentials” which produces all natural soaps, bath salts and gift baskets. She also breeds AKA registered Shetland Sheep dogs (Shelties) and AKC Shih Tzu’s. For the past 4 years Sylvia has home schooled her daughter.
Pilar R. Oczepek, board member, is currently the owner of PRO Bookkeeping & Tax Services. She has been a tax professional for the last eleven years. She provides tax services to both business and individuals. As a tax professional, she is currently a member of the National Association of Tax Professionals and Michigan National Association of Tax Practitioners. In the year 1996-1997, Pilar was elected to the position of member of the Board of Directors in the Michigan National Association of Tax Practitioners and also member of the Board for Quality Home Health Care, Inc in 1994-1997. In September 2006, Pilar was awarded a degree in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Information Technology, Summa Cum Laude by Colorado Technical University. She also completed a degree, BSBA in Accounting at the University of the East and a degree in Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Pilar worked in various position through the years like Chief Operations Officer for Quality Home Health Care from 1995 to 1997; Training and Communications Assistant for San Miguel Corporations from 1976-1979; Teacher at St. Jude Catholic School from 1973-1976; Acting Executive Secretary from 1972-1973; Auditing Clerk from 1969-1971; missionary from 1961-1969; Bookkeeper from 1957-1961. She also was an IRS VITA program volunteer from 1981-1986. She is also a volunteer for HERO, org at present.
